ICC T20I Rankings | Kohli, Dhoni climb ranks as KL Rahul enter top ten
Despite India’s heartbreaking defeats against Australia in their own backyard, individual performances have ensured that Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni gain places in the recently released ICC T20I rankings. The biggest progress, however, was for comeback batsman KL Rahul who climbed to the sixth spot.
Kohli’s scores of 24 and 72* helped him go two places up to the 17th spot in the new ICC T20I rankings, while MS Dhoni, with his 29* and 40 managed to climb seven places up to the 56th. India wouldn’t be playing any more T20Is in the upcoming months with the World Cup preparations on.
However, the biggest achiever in the recently concluded T20I series was KL Rahul. The promising batsman had to stay in the fringes following the chat show controversy that had forced him to leave the Indian team during their Australian tour. He scored runs of 50 and 47 in the two T20Is and consequently saw himself jump a whopping 31 spots into his career-best sixth spot with 726 rating points.
Apart from them, India’s bowling star Jasprit Bumrah moved up 12 places into the 15th spot, while left-arm spinner Krunal Pandya jumped 18 places to sit in the career-best 43rd spot. However, Kuldeep Yadav, who was left out of the squad, had to fall to the fourth spot from the second.
Australia’s hero in both the games Glenn Maxwell gained two spots to see himself sit third in the ranking. Afghanistan’s Hazratullah Zazai was another significant achiever in the newly released rankings as he climbed 31 slots to enter his career best seventh spot.
