India vs Australia | Playing in India A helped KL Rahul to focus on his skill and technique
After getting scores of 50 and 47 in the two T20Is against Australia, KL Rahul has mentioned that playing in India A and spending quality time with Rahul Dravid helped him focus on his skill and technique. Rahul was earlier suspended from the senior team after “Koffee with Karan” controversy.
Rahul was in full flow in the two T20Is that he got a chance to play against the Aussies making a comeback into the Indian team. He had to stay away from the senior national side after he was handed over a suspension by the board for hisccontroversial comments in a chat show “Koffee with Karan” along with teammate Hardik Pandya.
After the suspension was lifted he played a few games for the India A side under the guidance of Dravid against the England Lions in India. He got scores of 89 and 81 in the two first-class games there and is of the opinion that the matches for India A and spending time with Dravid helped him a lot in his technique and skill as a batsman.
“Fortunately I got to play some India A game and some games where the pressure is a little less so that I can focus on my skill and my technique. I spent a lot of time with Rahul Dravid, working on my game and chatting about cricket. He helped me a lot in the games I played for India A,” Rahul said during the press conference, reported Hindustan Times.
“Just happy that I tasted a bit of success in the last two games and my batting has come out pretty well. But the other side is that I could have carried on in both innings, got a big score and won the game for my team.”
When asked about the past two months, the Karnataka batsman replied, “It has humbled me a little bit. I obviously respect the opportunity I have got to play for the country. It is the dream of every kid and I am no different. Just to value where I am and keep making the opportunities count, put my head down and keep working on my cricket.”
Rahul missed out on a half-century in front of his home crowd at the Chinnaswamy Stadium but he provided India with a good start at the top of the order with Shikhar Dhawan struggling to get going yesterday. Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni also showed some good T20 batting but Glenn Maxwell stole the show by hitting a match-winning hundred as the Aussies cleanswept the series 2-0 against the hosts.
Rahul credited Maxwell for the exceptional knock in Bengaluru and defended the Indian bowlers saying that it was always difficult in the second innings with dew playing a part in the game during the Australian run-chase.
“In the second innings, dew always has an effect. We have seen that in Chinnaswamy. But can’t take (away) credit from Maxwell. He played a very good innings. Our bowlers tried their best but with a wet ball, it was always hard. We all know what a strong player Maxwell is. He can play all around the park and it was a special knock from him. If he carries on the same way into the ODIs, we will have to figure a way to get him out,” the 26-year-old said.
