India vs Australia | No real weak link in the Indian lineup, believes Aaron Finch
Aaron Finch has stated that the Indian team is well covered in all the departments be it batting or bowling and also hinted that the visitors have a variety in the line-up which any side would love to have. India and Australia will play the first ODI of the three-match series at the SCG tomorrow.
After the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the India-Australia juggernaut has now moved to the three-match ODI series which starts tomorrow at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Highest wicket-taker in the Test series - Jasprit Bumrah has been given a much-deserved rest for the series. But, Australian skipper Aaron Finch reckons that the Indian team sans Bumrah will still pose a similar challenge to their team despite India's lead pacer's absence.
“Bumrah has played a huge part for their one-day side or all their sides. Bhuvneshwar Kumar is someone who has had success at all levels as well. The two spinners have played a huge role in Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal over the last month as well. There are no real weak links in their side,” said Finch during the press conference, reported PTI.
The right-hander also explained that the Indian team management has all the variety one can ask for in their bowling department. He also praised India’s home and away performances in the shorter format of the game.
“They (India) have got left, right-arm, spin, leg-spin, off-spin, so they’ve got plenty of options… They play their own conditions very well but I think the amount of times they’re winning away from home in the shorter formats is a credit to them,” he said.
Rohit Shama, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan, all the three players feature in the top ten ICC batsmen rankings for the ODI format. Further elaborating on their record, the opener asserted that they would like to get the trio out early on in their innings otherwise it would be difficult for them to claw back into the game once the trio gets going.
“Over the last 12 months Virat’s averaged 133, Shikhar 75, and Rohit 50; so there’s a lot of runs and balls faced from their top three. It’s important to get them as early as you can because once they get in, they score fast and they don’t seem to get out too easily.
“Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, Dhoni these guys that can all play their part as well. The top three are very important but you can’t just look at that otherwise there’s someone else that will catch you off-guard and get the job done as well,” Finch said.
Finch reckons that there is still enough time left for them to finalize the right squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World to be held in England beginning later this year in May. Australia is the defending champion and has also won the World Cup five times - most by any cricketing nation.
“It’s still enough time to get it right and make sure, come that World Cup, that we are ready to go with a really balanced and settled side,” Finch said of the current series and five more one-dayers in India in March.
