The Three Lions have opted to go with a strong batting line-up for the 2019 Ashes opener at Edgbaston and went ahead with Moeen Ali instead of Sam Curran. Jofra Archer is the most high profile name who has unfortunately missed out on making the playing XI against Australia.

England are fresh off their ICC World Cup win as they beat New Zealand in the final by the narrowest of margins. Joe Root & Co. will now take on Australia in the much-awaited Ashes series as they hope to avenge last year's humiliating defeat at the hands of a Steven Smith-led outfit.

Playing on home soil this year, the three lions have named a strong starting XI to face Tim Paine & Co. in the opening Ashes Test match which is to be played at Edgbaston on August 1. The biggest surprise comes in the inclusion of all-rounder Moeen Ali, who was part of England's World Cup squad.

However, young pacer Jofra Archer has failed to make the matchday squad as coach Trevor Bayliss opted to go with the experienced duo of James Anderson and Stuart Broad.

Joe Root will lead the side that includes WC winners such as Jonny Bairstow, Jos Butler, Ben Stokes, Jason Roy and Chris Woakes. Rory Burns and Joe Denly occupy the remaining two batting spots in the English line-up as the home side look to get off to a flying start in Birmingham tomorrow.
