VIDEO | Three Sri Lankan fielders fail to back up as dot ball goes for a four in hilarious manner
Sri Lanka are slowly making a parody of themselves and it wouldn’t be far-fetched to say that they have learnt all this from their new-found rivals Bangladesh. Today, a nothing shot by Dawlat Zardan beat three fielders, one by one, to go for a boundary when it should have ideally been a dot ball.
After dismissing Gulbadin Naib and Rashid Khan, the result was almost a given for the Afghans and in the moment of rare ecstasy, Sri Lankan team were pumped up. While a steady approach was needed from the latter, for a fact that choking has become their inevitable factor, they made a comedy of themselves on the field.
On the fourth ball of the 27th over, Zadran just pushed the Nuwan Pradeep delivery down the ground and in the truest sense, it was just a simple nudge. The ball had no power to overcome the inner circle even, but Sri Lankans decided to make a total mess of it.
After the ball crossed past Pradeep, Lasith Malinga mistimed the slide inside the circle and the ball went past him comfortably. However, Sri Lanka still had Angelo Mathews, who ran from mid-on to get hold of the ball, but failed in his pursuit. Even when Mathews missed it, the Sri Lankans could also manage to control the momentum of the ball as Mathews ran behind the ball to stop it.
Seeing the ball going towards mid-on, Mathews instantly recovered himself and started running to save the ball from going to the boundary. However, his attempt to haul it back failed too as his dive was not sufficient for the ball to stop. While it should have been one run in an ideal scenario, it became a four - just a microcosm of their fielding in the recent past.
