Dinesh Karthik has stated that Andre Russell is a special player for KKR and credited him for playing a fantastic knock despite being hit by a beamer. The KKR skipper did not hold back his praise for spinner Kuldeep Yadav who made a strong come back after being taken apart initially.

Kolkata Knight Riders were pinned down by the Delhi Capitals bowlers as they were reduced to 61 for five in under 10 overs. The big-hitting all-rounder Andre Russell, who had bailed out the Knights in the previous two matches with his brilliant hitting, was once again at the crease. The Jamaican was at 21 off 12 balls in the middle of the 14th over, when a beamer from Harshal Patel hit his shoulder and the big man was down on the ground. He took some time to get up, but once he did, he once again took the bowlers to the cleaners and ended up smashing 62 off 28 deliveries. Not only that, he even bowled three overs and came to bat once again in the super over. The KKR skipper laid out his admiration for the valuable all-rounder.

“That’s the greatness of Russell, even with his injured left shoulder he kept batting for the team. He’s an absolute team man. He’s a special person and a special player for us. I think his shoulder is a little bruised, so it’ll be interesting to see how he pulls up. There’s the fact that he batted through and bowled for us which is brilliant for us,” Karthik said, reported Sportstar.

Spinner Kuldeep Yadav had a terrible start as he was smashed for 33 runs in his initial overs. However, he made a resounding comeback as he only gave away eight in his next two overs and even defended six off the final over to take the match to a super-over. The skipper felt that there was no need to talk to the wrist spinner about it as he will himself make an analysis and come back stronger.

“Kuldeep is a quality bowler. He himself will assess what he did. The way he bowled the last two overs was pretty much what he is as a bowler. He can bowl some real pressure overs. I think he himself will feel that he could have bowled a little better in the first couple of overs. Having said that they also played some good shots. But Kuldeep is a world-class bowler, so we expect better things out of him but the way he came back is again testament for how strong he is as a person,” stated the 33-year-old.

Kagiso Rabada bowled the super over for the Delhi Capitals and won the game for his team, courtesy his blazing fast yorkers. KKR had to score 11 runs in the over but the South African quick restricted them to just seven.

“Super-over games…always feel like it was very close. At the end of the day only one team can win and it just boiled down to the last couple of balls and Rabada executed it really well. The good thing was that we fought,” expressed the Tamil Nadu wicket-keeper.

The skipper was quick to defend the poor start by his batsmen and claimed that the pitch was slow which made scoring runs difficult.

“It was holding up a little bit. I think they bowled some good areas and they had some good plans in place. The ball was a little sticky; you didn’t feel that when Russell was batting but when the others were batting it did feel a little sticky,” he signed off.
