Won't say I'll be finished after the T20 World Cup, states Eoin Morgan
England's maiden World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan has informed he would take a call on his career after the 2020 Australia T20 World Cup. Morgan has also shared that he doesn't want to let anyone down and added that he is lucky to lead the bunch of extremely talented guys in English set-up.
England's limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan is clearly looking to lift another World Cup, albeit T20, to make it two in two years before giving retirement a thought. Morgan, who led England to its maiden World Cup on home soil earlier this year, said that he would take a call about his future after the T20 World Cup next year. The 33-year-old, who has 1810 runs in 78 T20I innings, has been peppered with injuries since a year or two now. Morgan shared how lucky he is to lead the current bunch of exceptional players.
"I won't say I'll be finished after the next World Cup as I'd be afraid I'll only creep over the line and maybe fall off. I don't want to let anyone down. I want to drive through the World Cup in Australia and then make a call after that. We have a special group of players at the moment. I feel very lucky to lead that group and I think we can do something even more special down the line," TOI quoted Morgan.
Ahead of their T20 series against New Zealand, England has included as many as five uncapped players in their squad resting the likes of Jofra Archer, Jos Butler, Ben Stokes and Jason Roy. It seems like England is looking for backups in the lead up to the T20 World Cup as Morgan shared that it's not easy to break into the squad.
"There aren't a lot of places up for grabs in our best XI and probably our final 15 for 12 months down the line. But we're not only building for 12 months down the line but the following World Cup as well. I think we're in a reasonably strong position. We'll look to build our best XI and 15 for every series leading in to fine-tune roles and have absolute clarity in what we're trying to do as a team."
