Reports | R Ashwin and Vijay Shankar named in Tamil Nadu probables for Vijay Hazare Trophy
India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and all-rounder Vijay Shankar have been named on the 21-member Tamil Nadu probables' list for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, beginning on September 24. Dinesh Karthik will captain the side which will be coached by former Tamil Nadu all-rounder Divakar Vasu.
Although he was picked for the Indian Test squad for the tour of West Indies, Ashwin did not – surprisingly to some at least – feature in either Test match. Both at Antigua and Jamaica, Ravindra Jadeja was the preferred option, while Hanuma Vihari was picked as the No.6 batsman as he could offer some overs with his part-time off-spin. All that behind him, the 33-year-old will now focus on getting his mojo back on the domestic circuit.
Meanwhile, Shankar, who was ruled out of the latter half of India ‘A’ series against South Africa 'A', has also been included in the list. After starting brightly against Pakistan at the World Cup, things have gone downhill for the 28-year-old who was looking to cement his place in the lineup.
The probables also includes Washington Sundar, C. Hari Nishaanth – who was the fourth-highest run-scorer in TNPL 2019 – and out-of-favour India opening batsmen Murali Vijay and Abhinav Mukund.
The probables: Dinesh Karthik (c), Vijay Shankar, Abhinav Mukund, N. Jagadeesan, B Aparajith, R Ashwin, Washington Sundar, Ganga Sridhar Raju, C. Hari Nishaanth, Pradosh Ranjan Paul, S. Lokeshwar, K. Mukunth, Murali Vijay, T. Natarajan, K. Vignesh, M. Mohammed, Abhishek Tanwar, J. Kousik, R. Sai Kishore, M. Siddharth, and Murugan Ashwin
