Despite setting the stage on fire at Edgbaston on the opening day of the fifth Test between India and England, Rishabh Pant's heroic 111-ball 146 was nothing special for Mohammad Asif. In fact, the former Pakistani pacer opined Pant's knock was completely due to faults made by English bowlers.

Mohammad Asif, Pakistan's former fast bowler, often comes up with controversial opinions on public platforms. The recent one was about Rishabh Pant regarding his blistering knock of 111-ball 146 at Edgbadon which came on Day 1 of the ongoing fifth postponed Test between India and England.

Coming at No. 5, Pant walked into the middle when India were left reeling at 98/5. Then he forged a memorable 222-run stand with Ravindra Jadeja to revive the innings and went on smashing 20 fours and four sixes before being dismissed by Joe Root. Still, Asif felt the India's swashbuckling wicket-keeper did not do anything special there, and it only came because of the faults made by English bowling attack, which consists of James Anderson and Stuart Broad, two of all-time greats.

“It was totally England bowlers’ fault as Pant did no wonders. He has technical faults. His left hand doesn’t work but still, he managed to score a century because English bowlers didn’t bowl to him in his weak areas,” Asif told a Twitter video.

“I will not name individuals but England made a lot of mistakes. When Jadeja and Pant were batting, they brought in a left-arm spinner who wasn’t an ideal option to bowl at that moment. I am not against Pant, but with such decisions by the opposition, you get an edge to score big."
