Mumbai Indians finally are back to a winning ways after losing three games on the trot by beating Delhi by 29 runs. Chasing 235 runs put up by Mumbai with Romario Shepherd’s heroics, the Delhi batters couldn't manage to capitalise on steady partnerships and ultimately succumbed to MI.

Choosing to field first in rock hard Wankhede pitch didn't yield great results for Delhi Capitals Rishabh Pant. Mumbai Indians openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma were off to a blazing start with the duo putting up a massive 75/0 at the end of the powerplay. As the former MI skipper looked to score a half-century, Delhi’s Axar Patel dismissed him in the seventh over and broke the 80-run opening stand. The unfortunate incident happened for the home side when Suryakumar Yadav got out scoring a duck in the eighth over. As Kishan was looking good with the bat with a strike rate of 182.61, Axar struck again and scalped his wicket in the 11th over. The woe persisted as Tilak Varma failed to fire and departed in the 13th over with the scorecard at 123/4. With skipper Hardik Pandya and Tim David on the crease, the Mumbai batting found some momentum as the duo built a solid 60 runs stand cruising their side to 183/5 in 18 overs with Pandya departing in the same over. However, the last two overs saw Mumbai batters showcase extreme assault and damaging Delhi’s bowling. With David and Romario Shepherd on the crease, the Capitals conceded 19 runs off the 19th over off Ishant Sharma with the scorecard at 202/5. However, Shepherd switched gears thereafter and launched an attack on Anrich Nortje in the last over scoring 32 runs and taking his side to 234/5 in 20 overs.

The visitors faced a bad start as their star opener David Warner departed in the fourth over. With Prithvi Shaw and Abishek Porel on the crease, the Capitals managed to put 46/1 at the end of the powerplay. The 22-year-old Mumbai batter switched gears thereafter and scored a 31-ball fifty taking the scorecard to 94/1 in 10 overs. Unfortunately, Jasprit Bumrah managed to dismiss Shaw in the 12th over breaking the 88-run stand between him and Porel. Thereafter, Tristan Stubbs and Porel managed to build a steady 34-run stand taking their side to 144 runs in 15 overs with the 21-year-old Bengal batter departing in the same over. With 91 runs needed off the last five overs, all eyes were on Rishabh Pant and Stubbs to pave the way for the Capitals. Unfortunately, the duo couldn't capitalise as the Delhi skipper made his way to the pavilion in the 16th over. However, the 23-year-old Protea looked good with the bat smacking 19 runs off the 17th over and scoring a 19-ball fifty. With 55 runs needed off 12 deliveries, the Delhi batting suffered an unfortunate run-out with Axar Patel departing in the 19th over. However Stubbs kept fighting but the equation of 34 from the last six was too much to ask. Eventually, the visitors were unable to chase the total and could manage to score 205/8. With the clinical win, Mumbai Indians finally opened their points table with two important points.
