Controversies are more like the unprecedented byproduct of live sports. And regarding conflicts, Sanjay Manjrekar has an extended history in the cricket broadcasting arena, with the latest one revolving around Yashasvi Jaiswal’s runout leading to an on-air debate with Irfan Pathan.

After Steve Smith’s 140 powered the mighty Aussie to a 474-run first innings tally, the Indian batting incurred an early setback. Rohit Sharma’s promotion to the top didn’t go as planned by the Indian management as Pat Cummins got his outnumbered him for the umpteenth time in his career. While KL Rahul steadied the ship, he was cleaned up on a Cummins peach that could outwit 95 percent of the world’s batters. During adverse conditions, India’s No. 4 Virat Kohli accompanied Yashasvi Jaiswal and built the fort to keep the Aussie bowlers at bay during the last session. As the third-wicket partnership surpassed the hundred-run mark, the pair lost control due to a messy runout that shifted the momentum in Australia’s favour.

Jaiswal had flicked a fuller ball towards mid on and immediately sprinted towards the bowler’s end. However, Kohli was not ready for the run and signalled the southpaw to go back. The lack of coordination led to Jaiswal’s departure for 82, making way for a couple of more scalps as India ended the second day at 164/5.

The huge mix-up between the Jaiswal and Kohli became the talk of the town, leading to a on-air verbal furry between Sanjay Manjrekar and Irfan Pathan. The two pundits were analysis the runout in Star Sports Hindi coverage where Manjrekar pointed out Kohli’s fault of ballwatching. However, Irfan politely tried to raise his opinion that the Mumbaikar disagreed arrogantly. Having interrupted Irfan multiple times after getting annoyed on air, the Twitterverse was divided on the unprofessionalim act.
