In the pantheon of cricketing greats, few athletes age like a fine wine. Delhi Capital’s Ishant Sharma seems close to making the list after inducing a brilliant run out off his bowling to remove Punjab Kings’ Jonny Bairstow in the second game of the Indian Premier League on Saturday.

After a flying start inside the powerplay, the Capitals managed to pull 174 runs in the first innings. In reply, the Kings got off to a similar start as that of their counterparts before Ishant Sharma turned the tables by cleaning up Shikhar Dhawan and inducing an excellent run out to remove unlucky Jonny Bairstow.

On the fifth ball of the fourth over, Ishant bowled a good length delivery at the middle stump that Prabhsimran drove straight down the line like an arrow. Seeing the rebounding ball, Sharma tried to stretch towards his right and grab the ball but could manage only a bit of finger to it. The white rock crashed onto the stumps at the non-striker’s end with non-striker Jonny Bairstow trying to get back home. Immediately, the on-field umpire sent this upstairs and the TV umpire, Alex Wharf found that there was a clear hand to the ball with the Englishman falling marginally short of reaching the crease.

As the final decision came to be an out,  the Twitterverse broke into appreciation for the 35-year-old’s 'athleticism'.
