IND vs BAN | Bumrah four-for decimate Bangladesh as India sits atop heading to third day
Batting for the second time in the day, India lead by 308 runs heading to the third day of the first Test in Chennai. Jasprit Bumrah’s four-for decimated Bangladesh to 149 in the second innings before Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill’s mid-thirties helped India command despite losing three wickets.
Brief Scores: IND: 81/3 (23) lead by 308 runs [Gill: 33*, Kohli: 17], BAN: 149 [Shakib: 32, Miraz: 27*; Bumrah: 4/50]
India’s massive seventh wicket stand failed to prosper the next morning as Taskin Ahmed’s improved line and length got the better of Ravindra Jadeja for 86. Akash Deep accompanied him for a brief period and impressed with a few exciting strokes to keep the scoreboard ticking. Subsequently, both batters got dismissed in an attempt of big shots, handing Taskin with a three-fer. Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj failed to negate the Bangladeshi bowlers for long as India got bundled for 376 with Hasan Mahmud’s long wait for a fifer getting fulfilled.
In response, Bangladesh suffered an early blow as Jasprit Bumrah kissed the top of off in a beautiful setup to outwit Shadman Islam. Zakir Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto were resilient for the next seven overs before Akash Deep wreaked havoc by claiming consecutive wickets in the last over of the session to leave the visitors at 26/3 at Lunch.
Following resumption, Siraj and Bumrah removed Shanto and Mushfiqur Rahman respectively before Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan withstood the attack for a brief period with a fifty-plus partnership before the introduction of spin yielded rewards in favour of the hosts. The left-arm orthodox spinner sent the two on his back-to-back overs leaving Bangladesh at 92/7 in 31 overs. Hasan Mahmud stayed for a while before Bumrah got his number in the last over before Tea.
Resuming from 112/8 after the twenty-minute break, Taskin Ahmed and Mehidy Hasan Miraz milked their way amidst a few rash strokes before Bumrah’s toe-crusher removed the pacer. Subsequently, Bangladesh could add just 19 runs to end up with 149 runs total
Avoiding to enforce a follow-on, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal’s ploy to make the most out of the hard red ball didn’t quite last long as Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana outnumbered them early in the innings respectively. Subsequently, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill rebuilt the innings with the former playing second fiddle initially. While Gill played some flamboyant strokes, the former Indian captain kept milking his way to 32 before avoiding to review and getting out unlucky fifteen minutes before Stumps. Rishabh Pant entered the fray and smacked a four and a six to propel the score to 81/3 in 23 overs at Stumps.

Clear edge, why didn’t Virat Kohli review this? pic.twitter.com/XQBFZkaj6m

He should have given it a try on DRS!
It was clearly not out. This is so frustrating to see. Shubman Gill, from the non-striker's end, should have asked Virat Kohli to take DRS. pic.twitter.com/mtnoqPuaho

Rohit was frustrated!
Rohit, Umpire, Gill man they can't believe wtf just happened and so can't I. Could've easily taken a review man. This is the second time today. First Siraj missing out on a wicket & now Kohli's dismissal. https://t.co/xyyHolfXXG pic.twitter.com/2WLubglX8W
