KL Rahul scored a match winning fifty against RCB at the Chinnaswamy

Delhi Capitals continued their charge to the top of the table as they thrashed third placed Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 6 wickets at the Chinnaswamy. While Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) and Vipraj Nigam (2/18) starred with the ball, KL Rahul (93*) took his team over the line after a fierce RCB powerplay.

While Rajat Patidar did say that he would have chosen to field had he won the toss, his opener, Phil Salt, got the hosts off to a fast start. With 53 off the first three overs, the game seemed to be headed into a run fest before a brain-fade moment from the Englishman cost him his wicket via a run out. Mukesh Kumar, bowling the last over of the powerplay, bowled a wicket maiden to bring the field restrictions to an end with the scoreboard reading 64/2. With Virat Kohli (22) falling in the next over, Delhi got the foothold that they desired in the game and managed to concede just 27 in the next four while sending Livingstone back to the hut as well. Kuldeep Yadav piled on the pressure by claiming the wickets of Jitesh Sharma and Patidar (25) in back to back overs to leave the hosts reeling at 117/6 with five to go. The next three overs yielded a mere 10 runs as RCB seemed to be heading to a meek finish. Tim David, however, had different plans as he took Axar to the cleaners in the 19th over with a 17 run over before smashing Mukesh for 19 to get to a competitive score of 163.

RCB picked up where David had left off with two wickets in the first three overs conceding just 21 runs as Faf du Plessis (2) and Jake Fraser-McGurk (7) struggled to give their team any impetus. Even though KL Rahul was dropped in the fourth over, Abhishek Porel found no such luck as Jitesh collected a high catch as the powerplay came to an end with just 39 runs on the board. Bengaluru’s impact play,Suyash Sharma, provided the impact in his second over by dismissing Axar Patel leaving Delhi needing 97 off 10 overs. While Suyash followed it up with a one run over, Krunal Pandya and Liam Livingstone conceded 13 and 14 runs in the next two overs as Rahul got to his second fifty of the season. As the rain came down in Bengaluru, and Delhi behind on DLS, Rahul took Hazelwood to the cleaners in a 22 run over to take a huge lead in the DLS calculations. In a desperate attempt to save the game, Patidar threw the ball to Suyash but a 13 run over left the equation at 30 needed off four overs. Delhi cantored to the win with obver two overs to spare. Not only did Delhi rack up their fourth win in as many games in IPL 2025, the win also saw they overtake Gujarat at the top of the table.
