Advancement of technology have leverged sports in numerous ways with one of them being the usage of DRS reviews in cricket. However, Shreyas Iyer opted to go against it for his ally Glenn Maxwell, leading to the latter’s embarrassing downfall in the fifth match of the 2025 Indian Premier League.

Playing their first game of the season at home, Shubman Gill opted to field first at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. Their bowlers conceded 73 runs inside the powerplay for just the wicket of Prabhsimran Singh. Going forward, Shreyas Iyer, who was commanding the innings with authority, fell short of continued assistance from the other end, with the Titans’ spinners making a positive impact in the middle overs. Amidst all of it, Maxwell’s golden duck, due to a review negligence, was the prime highlight og the phase.

With 104 runs on the board midway through the innings, Sai Kishore came in for his second over, picking up the wicket of Azmatullah Omarzai on the third ball. On the immediate next delivery, he sprayed a fuller delivery at the new batter Maxwell, who tried to reverse sweep on the first ball of his innings itself. He got into a poor position while executing the stroke and incurred a thud at the pad. To the naked eye, it seemed like he was plumb in front, and Shreyas suggested Maxwell walk off without reviewing. However, minutes after, the replay showed that the ball was missing the stumps, probably due to Sai Kishore’s high-arm release, causing a Twitterverse frenzy and disappointing Ricky Ponting.
