PS vs SS | Twitter applauds as Richardson and Payne power Scorchers to title with easy win over Sixers
Perth Scorchers beat Sydney Sixers by six wickets in the final of the Big Bash League 2025-26 season. The pace duo of Jhye Richardson and David Payne picked up six wickets between them to skittle the Sixers for a modest 132 before the Scorchers’ openers set up the chase with a partnership of 80.

Though Steve Smith, Josh Philippe, and skipper Moises Henriques all got promising starts, no one could capitalise on it and convert it into a game-changing one. The trio was dismissed for identical scores of 24, with Smith hitting three fours and a six during his 13-ball knock. The veteran batter was dismissed by Aaron Hardie while Payne accounted for the other two, along with the wicket of Lachlan Shaw in between. However, Joel Davies helped the side to a respectable total with his handy cameo down the order before Mahli Beardman cleaned up the tail with two scalps. Left-arm seamer Payne had impressive figures of 3/18 in four overs, with Richardson ending with 3/32.
The Scorchers’ chase started on a perfect note with Marsh smashing Sean Abbott for a huge six off the first ball after restart. With no scoreboard pressure, Marsh and fellow opener Allen took their time before the former struck two boundaries off Jack Edwards’ in the third over. Meanwhile Allen was severe on Mitchell Starc with a six and a four in a 19-run over as the home side sat pretty at 41/0 at the end of the four-over powerplay. From then on, there was no looking back as the side were left to make just 53 runs from 70 balls when Allen was dismissed. The Kiwi batter had four fours and a six during his 22-ball 36 while his partner Marsh top-scored in the game with 44 off 43 balls, hitting four fours and two sixes as the side coasted to 133/4 with 15 balls to spare. Meanwhile Abbott’s spell of 2/19 in four overs was the lone consolation for the visitors who faded away even without a fight.
