Diego Costa marked his return to the Chelsea first team with his first league goal since Dec 31 to take the Blues eight points clear at the top of the table. Arsenal needed a 98th-minute winner from Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez to dispose off Burnley at the Emirates to go second on the table.

Chelsea, who have been on a rampant run this season, secured a convincing 2-0 victory over Hull City to increase their lead over the chasing pack.

Diego Costa, who missed last weekend's 3-0 win over Leicester due to some off the field issues, handed Chelsea the lead in injury time at the end of the first half placing the ball past Eldin Jakupovic from a Victor Moses cross. Hull fought back in the second half and Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois was called into action in a couple of occasions. However, the Blues closed out the game late in the second half when Gary Cahill rose highest to head the ball into the Hull goal.

Hull City's problems were compounded as midfielder Ryan Mason had to undergo a surgery after fracturing his skull during the game after he clashed his head with Chelsea defender Gary Cahill, 13 minutes into the match.

Southampton beat Leicester City 3-0

Defending Champions Leicester City’s winless away run continued for yet another match after they were convincingly beaten by Southampton at St. Marys. Claude Puel’s side dominated the Foxes from the onset and went ahead through a James Ward-Prowse goal in the 26th minute.

The Englishman then played a part in setting up Jay Rodriguez for the second goal with a delightful freekick. Dusan Tadic added a third four minutes from time to secure a comfortable win for the Saints.

Leicester City have now gone 11 games without an away victory this season conceding a colossal 37 goals in 22 games. After this defeat, Claudio Ranieri's side are just five points above the relegation zone.

Arsenal go past Burnley at Emirates

Alexis Sanchez’s 98th-minute penalty helped a 10-man Arsenal team secure second place on the table after the Gunners ran out 2-1 winners in a thrilling contest against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium. Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka was sent off in the second half for a two-footed lunge and the Gunners had to play with 10 players for the last 25 minutes of the match.

Andre Gray equalized for the visitors from the penalty spot in the 88th minute after Shkodran Mustafi had given the London club the lead early in the second half. However, Arsenal showed tremendous character in the dying stages of the game and were handed a controversial penalty when Ben Mee fouled Laurent Koscielny, who was offside when the ball was played. Sanchez, however, scored from the spot as in the 98th minute to help Arsenal go above North London rivals Spurs on the table.
