Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has admitted that his young team has the quality and desire to win games but need to be more consistent on the pitch. The Blues recorded a 2-1 victory over low lying Aston Villa after Chelsea shockingly lost to West Ham United during the weekend at the Stamford Bridge.

In his post-match press-conference, after Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa, Frank Lampard commented on his side and went on to admit that his team needs to be more consistent. The win at home was a good response to their subpar defeat to West Ham but now they must build on a positive start to the season. Tammy Abraham returned to the starting lineup after missing their game against the Hammers due to injury. The 22-year-old and Mason Mount were on target for the 2019 UEFA Europa League champions and made sure the Blues returned to winning ways after two back to back losses.

“I'm happy but I want more. I think we've had a pretty good start because a lot of people, maybe expected otherwise but I think we've done pretty well. But I want more all the time. The last week has been a good example of that for us. I saw us go to Man City and trade with them like a big team that was in and around that level, then I saw us play against West Ham like a team that's not that,” said Lampard to the Sky Sports.

The midweek win over Villa now gives Chelsea some more breathing space as they are 6 points clear of 5th placed Wolverhampton Wanderers. They also maintain their 3 point deficit over Manchester City, who are sitting in third with 32 points. Chelsea will now travel to Everton with Toffees manager Marco Silva’s job on the line after a 5-2 loss in the Merseyside derby. Lampard further added on how efficiently the team recovered and the potential this young team has.

“Then I saw a recovery [against Villa] back to where we were. That shows me we have real potential but we have to be aware there may be tough bumps that we're going to have to overcome because we're young, because we're slightly transitional, and that will only show itself as we go along. The important thing is we keep working to improve every day,” concluded the Blues legend.
