Reports | Carlo Ancelotti closing in on Everton move

Former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly agreed to take up a new managerial job at Everton after being sacked by Napoli last week following a poor run in the Serie A. Everton are without a permanent manager since parting ways with Marco Silva after a painful Merseyside derby defeat.

According to English media outlet Sky Sports, ex-Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has agreed to a deal in principle to join Everton as their next manager. The Toffees are without a manager since sacking Marco Silva after a 5-2 thrashing at the hands of Liverpool. Under Silva’s managership, the Toffees landed in the relegation zone and looked a distraught team with things changing since. The appointment of Duncan Ferguson as caretaker manager has helped the club earn four points against Chelsea and Manchester United.

Everton hierarchy are still evaluating options however and have interviewed a number of candidates for the manager’s job. However, according to the latest report, Carlo Ancelotti has agreed on a deal to take the reins at Goodison Park. Negotiations between Everton and Ancelotti progressed well following the Italian’s arrival on Merseyside on Monday. Ancelotti was sacked by Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis last week after a falling out between the former AC Milan boss and De Laurentiis.

However, Napoli under Ancelotti did well in the Champions League as they finished with 12 points and qualified for the knockout stages with the club set to face Barcelona in the next round. De Laurentiis appointed former Milan coach Gennaro Gattuso as Ancelotti’s replacement and reports have indicated that Everton could announce Ancelotti before Wednesday's Carabao Cup quarter-final. Everton have revealed that caretaker boss Duncan Ferguson will be in charge for the visit of Brendan Rodgers' side, with the former Blues striker set to remain as part of the first-team coaching staff, should Ancelotti be appointed.
