Lucien Favre asserted that Jadon Sancho was dropped because the Borussia Dortmund boss only wanted players who were focused to play against Barcelona. The 19-year-old has struggled to find his way over the last month or so with his performance levels dipping and his influence over the game waning.

Despite being benched against Barcelona, Jadon Sancho walked off the bench and scored yet another crucial goal for Borussia Dortmund. The starlet has struggled over the last few weeks for the Signal Iduna Park side and that has seen him heavily linked with a move away. Reports have indicated that the Premier League’s top sides are not the only clubs in the race with Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are also interested.

However, what has caused a few issues is the fact that ESPN has reported that Sancho is feeling victimized since his return from international duty last month. But conflicting reports indicate that Sancho has struggled to keep himself focused with Dortmund boss Lucien Favre implying as much. The former Borussia Monchengladbach coach went on to admit that he dropped Sancho because he needed players who were focused on the game and ready for action.

Favre also added that he explained to the 19-year-old why he was on the bench and why he, Favre, started four full-backs against a tough Barcelona side with the Dortmund boss eventually bringing Sancho on in the second-half.

"I explained to him [why he wasn't starting] before the game. I told him it was a really difficult game here in Barcelona, and we needed players that were really focused and that went on to the pitch really focused," said Favre, reported ESPN.
