Sporting Lisbon star Bruno Fernandes has expressed joy on signing a new and improved contract with the club. The new deal will keep him in Lisbon till the summer of 2023 but his release clause has been increased from £65m to £85m amidst interest from England, Spain and Italy over a January move.

Bruno Fernandes has signed a new contract with Sporting Lisbon and will pocket better wages after being arguably the club's best player over the last few years. The Portuguese giants crushed Manchester United's hopes of a potential transfer with Fernandes' new deal with the midfielder constantly linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window.

However, while the Red Devils have been heavily linked, Fernandes has also been linked with a move to Spain and Italy. However, his stance on leaving the club has clearly changed as he told the club's website that he is delighted to be at the club and get recognised for his efforts. The midfielder further added that it's a privilege to wear the Sporting CP shirt and that he will look to do nothing but improve going forward.

“It's a pride for me and a recognition of my work; it's a sign that I'm doing things well. I have been trying my best to do what is best for the club. It is for what I did on the pitch, but also showed that I liked Sporting CP and took pride in representing the club I represent. For me it is, and always will be, a privilege to be here and be able to wear the Sporting CP jersey. You can expect more and better. I promise the same delivery and dedication so we can have more moments of glory as we had last season,” said the 25-year-old to the Sporting website.

The new contract has also seen his release clause bumped up from £65 million to £85 million and effectively puts an end to any potential move that Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur had for the creative midfielder to their ranks. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team has suffered due to the lack of creative players and reports indicate that Fernandes was and still remains a top target. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho had shortlisted the Portuguese midfielder as one of his top targets at the Tottenham.
