Reports | Real Madrid set to announce a deadline day move for Bruno Fernandes
Sporting CP star Bruno Fernandes is all set to join La Liga giants Real Madrid before the European deadline closes. The former Sampdoria midfielder has been subjected to strong interest from European clubs all summer, but it does seem that Real Madrid have finally managed to land the player.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur came quite close to signing Bruno Fernandes during this transfer window, but the deals failed to materialize. Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane however, has been on the lookout for a new midfielder this summer, with his sights set on Manchester United's Paul Pogba.
But, the Los Blancos were unable to match the Pogba’s valuation and were forced to look elsewhere. According to The Sun, Zidane has been successful at luring Fernandes to the Santiago Bernabeu. Fernandes has also revealed that he was on the verge of signing for Tottenham.
“As you all know, Tottenham made a lot of proposals for me. Everything was right with me – or practically should be. I never made any big demands, my manager was always dealing with the financials. It was and is my goal to play in England, Sporting you know that, everyone knows that, and there were conditions for things to be done,” he said to GQ.
"But Sporting understood that the value was not enough and I have to respect the decision. Sporting made the decision not sell me also because they believed in my worth and for believe that the values that were offered were not enough,” concluded Fernandes.
The 24-year-old ’s signing will finally end Zidane’s search for a midfielder this season and would potentially give Real Madrid a long-term replacement for Luka Modric. With the transfer window set to close on Monday, it is expected that the Los Blancos will be moving swiftly to close the deal.
