Jan Vertonghen has launched a scathing attack on the FA for unsettling players by closing the transfer window early. Tottenham were one of the many clubs affected by the window closing early, with Mauricio Pochettino unable to use his full squad with players unsettled about their futures.

In the end, despite intense speculation about his future at the club, Tottenham star Christian Eriksen ended up staying at the club. The Danish midfielder was heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane after revealing that he was looking for a new challenge outside England. However, he was not the only Tottenham man in trouble with Jan Vertonghen’s future also up in the air.

Both men just happened to be in the final year of their current contracts with Tottenham, although Vertonghen wasn’t as heavily linked with a move away as Eriksen was. This saw the Belgian defender make the starting line-up just once, while Eriksen was in and out of the squad. However, now in an interview with Sky Sports, Vertonghen has launched an attack against the English FA and their decision to close the transfer window early.

“England made that decision, expecting all the other leagues would follow. In the end, they didn’t. Or not yet. That’s definitely no benefit for the Premier League. I’m not sure about what can change but it would be good if everyone was on the same page with it,” he told Sky Sports.

“I just want to focus on football now. When you don’t play, you realise how important it is and it’s extremely important for me. I’ve been so long with the guys, I love the club and I just want to play as much as I can. I feel great and I just want to help the club to win trophies.

"I came back fit. I played in every pre-season game and I didn’t miss a session. Like the manager explained, it was a tactical decision and we players have to accept his decisions. He (Pochettino) said before the first game against Villa it was a tactical decision and I respect that decision,” concluded the 32-year-old.
