Last year’s Champions League winners Liverpool are aware of the impact that Sadio Mane brings to their game and want to tie him down at the club with a contract extension. The Senegalese was instrumental in Liverpool’s campaign last year and the club wants to be secure about his future at Anfield.

French outlet Soccer Link have reported that Liverpool have already begun talks with Sadio Mane and his representatives regarding an extension. Mane’s current contract keeps him at the club until 2023, but the Liverpool officials want to make it known that they will not let Mane leave the club. The extended contract will offer Mane a pay raise as well, however, the process is still in its early stages.

Since signing for the Reds in a €40m deal from Southampton in 2016, Mané has had scored 65 goals and 23 assists in just 129 matches for the Merseyside based club. Last year, Mane was the joint top scorer in the Premier League with 22 goals, alongside teammate Mohamed Salah and Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Senegalese has now carried over his last year’s form into the new season, by scoring 4 goals in 5 matches as Liverpool sit at the top of the Premier League table. Mane’s double against Newcastle United yesterday helped Liverpool to extend the winning streak they have been enjoying this season.
