Jurgen Klopp has admitted that Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard should replace him at the helm of the Reds once he steps down. The 2005 Champions League winner is currently managing a Rangers side that is in the Europa League and only sits three points behind Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

Ever since Jurgen Klopp took over at Liverpool, it’s been a steady improvement for the Reds culminating into their Champions League win at the end of last season. While fans and even the club would have liked to end their Premier League title drought, Klopp and co made Manchester City fight for their second consecutive title all the way to the final day, eventually losing by just one point.

And that combined with his Champions League win saw Klopp win BEST FIFA Men’s Coach of the Year for 2019, and also saw a few of his players make the cut for the team of the year. However, while the German manager hopes he can keep the run going, he also believes that once he steps down Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard should take over.

The former midfielder, who has well over 700 appearances for the Reds and a Champions League crown to his name, is currently managing Scottish side Rangers. He’s in his second year with the club, after finishing second in his first season, and is looking to chase down Celtic once again.

“Kenny and Stevie have both been a really big support from day one. But, my position as a manager has nothing to do with the people around me. If Liverpool were to sack me tomorrow, then maybe Kenny would be the first choice to replace me, but they would probably bring Stevie down from Glasgow. If you ask who should follow me, I’d say Stevie. I help him whenever I can,” said the Liverpool boss to FourFourTwo.

"If someone gets your job, it’s not about them, it’s about you not being good enough. I’m old enough to know that I give this job everything. I’m not a genius, I’m not perfect, but I give the club 100 per cent. If that’s enough, great. If it’s not, then it’s just the problem of the situation.  I’m not jealous, I’m not sceptical. I’m completely open. If you want my help, you’ll get it.

"My family often thinks that I’m too quick to open up, but I think being any other way is a waste of time. I love life, I love my job, I like most people – that’s how it is,” concluded Klopp.
