After a 5-0 win over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Europa League semi-final, Lautaro Martinez has opined that Inter Milan have proved that they’re ready for great things. The Nerazzurri eased past the champions of Ukraine with Romelu Lukaku and Martinez scoring braces and will face Sevilla in the final.

While few expected Shakhtar Donetsk to beat Inter Milan, the Ukrainian Champions were expected to give Antonio Conte’s side a tough test after the way the eased into the semi-finals. But it was simply not their night as Conte and his Inter Milan side put up a defensive masterclass that frustrated Shakhtar Donetsk. Not only that, the Nerazzurri were clinical and managed to net five past a hapless Pyatov which ensured their passage into the next stage of the Europa League.

Inter will face Sevilla in the final and while many have already dubbed it the “Sevilla Final” after the tournament’s record winners, Lautaro Martinez believes that Inter are ready to prove themselves. The Argentine admitted that their performance against Shakhtar has proved that the Nerazzurri are ready for great things with them improving game by game. He also added that they’ve got a great mix of players that will only help the club, going forward.

"It was an incredible night, the kind we dreamed of. It had been a long time since I played that well, and in a semi-final we proved Inter are ready for great things. We're ready for the final. These goals give me so much, as there was a period when I wasn't at my usual levels, but this experience helps you to grow. I am very happy with the way the team is playing and showing such character,” Martinez told Sky Sports Italia.

"We're getting better game by game and I am happy on a personal level too, as I am going to have my first child, so I dedicate the goals to my wife and family. We just keep getting stronger, showing maturity with both young players and more experienced ones like Samir Handanovic, Danilo D'Ambrosio and Diego Godin. They point the way and we all follow."
