According to ESPN, Barcelona are set to intensify a move for Real Sociedad striker Alexander Isak with the Swede amongst their top targets ahead of the summer transfer window. The former Borussia Dortmund striker has thrived this season for the La Liga side with 12 goals in 20 league appearances.

A lot was expected from Alexander Isak when he signed for Borussia Dortmund but a lack of game-time combined with the fact that Isak never really got a chance saw him leave for Spain. The Swede did do it via a detour into the Netherlands where he stunned the Eredivisie with 20 goal contributions in just 16 league appearances. That was more than enough for Sociedad to sign him from the Bundesliga giants and Isak has seen proven them more than right.

The 21-year-old netted 9 league goals in his debut season with the club alongside 7 goals in as many Copa del Rey appearances as Sociedad reached the final. Things haven’t changed this season with Isak netting 12 goals in 20 league appearances including his first hattrick for the club against Alvaes recently. That has attracted Barcelona’s interest and ESPN has reported that the La Liga giants have made Isak their top summer target.

Financial issues and presidential issues have prevented Ronald Koeman’s side from signing a replacement for Luis Suarez but that will all change next summer. The 21-year-old Isak has been on Barcelona’s radar for more than some time now and with a €70 million release clause combined with three years left on his deal, it could make the move far cheaper than anyone else. But, Borussia Dortmund does have a €30 million buy-back clause on the forward and one they’re reportedly looking to use if Erling Haaland leaves.
