Yuvraj Singh is laid low by viral fever and will, unfortunately, miss India's first warm-up game against New Zealand at Kennington Oval today. However, the Indian southpaw is expected to recover and be available for India's second warm-up match against Bangladesh on May 30th at the same venue.

Yuvraj Singh was absent from the net sessions on Friday when the Indian players sweated it out at Lord's before their warm-up game against New Zealand and the reason was revealed to be a bout of viral fever. However, BCCI. through a media release, clarified that the 34-year-old was recovering quickly but was advised to rest by the BCCI medical team.

The left-hander was in perfect condition when the Indian team landed in England but woke up with a high fever on Friday which prompted him to visit the hospital where he underwent multiple checkups and was kept under observation for 4 to 5 hours.

"The BCCI Medical Team confirms that Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh who is presently down with viral fever is making steady progress. There are no major health concerns and he is recuperating well, to the satisfaction of the medical team," a BCCI media release stated. "He is advised rest and will miss India's first warm-up match against New Zealand at The Oval on May 28, 2017. The medical team will continue to monitor Yuvraj Singh's progress and hope for a speedy recovery," the release read.

Yuvraj has a pivotal role to play in the Indian middle order along with former skipper MS Dhoni as India have already lost Manish Pandey who had been ruled out due to a side strain.

On the other hand, Rohit Sharma will also miss today's game as he is attending his cousin's wedding after the approval of his request for a leave by the Indian board. The Mumbai batsman will join the team in London for the second warm-up tie against Bangladesh.

The Indian team will start their title defence against arch-rivals Pakistan on June 4 at Birmingham.

Did you know, Yuvraj Singh became the first all-rounder to score 300 plus runs and to take 15 wickets in a single World Cup.
