Former Pakistani pace ace Waqar Younis has reportedly applied for the vacant position of the Pakistani bowling coach role which was previously held by Azhar Mahmood. The pacer previously had multiple stints with the country as the bowling coach, while also being the head coach on two occasions.

On the wake of reports suggesting that Misbah-ul-Haq was favourite to take over as the new head coach of the Pakistan Cricket Team, it is also now being reported that former Pakistani speedster Waqar Younis has applied for the vacant bowling coach role, which was previously held by Azhar Mahmood.

The pacer has already enjoyed multiple stints as the country's bowling coach between 2006 to 2009, while also enjoying stints as the head coach between 2010 to 2011 and 2014 to 2016. According to the media outlet Geo News, Waqar is the most high profile name to have applied for the role.

Earlier this month, the PCB announced that they were not going to renew the contracts of incumbents Mickey Arthur and Mahmood, thus opening the door for both Waqar and Misbah to take over as bowling coach and head coach respectively. It is believed that Waqar applied for the role earlier this week, with the deadline for the applications being August 26th.
