ISSF World Cup | Jitu Rai wins silver in Baku
Indian shooter Jitu Rai beat three-time Olympic champion Jongoh Jin of Korea to a silver medal finish in Baku on Saturday after shooting 199.5 in the finals of the men's 10m air pistol. Meanwhile, Heena Sidhu has qualified for the finals of the women's 25m air pistol event.
Jitu Rai's 199.5 fell just short of the 200.0 Felipe Almeida Wu of Brazil shot to win the gold. Rai pipped three-time champion Jongoh to the silver medal, who shot 178.8. The 25-year-old finished sixth in the qualification stage with the eventual gold medal winner finishing below him in that stage.
It was Jitu Rai's sixth World Cup medal and his second this year, after winning the Gold in the 50m pistol event in Thailand. The Indian has been in superb form since 2015 Asian Shooting Championship, where he bagged a silver medal in the 50m free pistol event, and this augurs well for the nation as we head into the Olympics at Rio.
Meanwhile, another medal prospect for India, Heena Sidhu, has qualified for the finals of the women's 25m air pistol event with a score of 582 in the qualification round. She will be hoping to return to form in what is the last shooting tournament before Rio.
