IPL 2019 | Player Ratings - Rajasthan Royals players rated and slated from their unfortunate Punjab campaign

All might come down to how unfortunate Jos Butter’s dismissal was, but as Kumar Sangakkara stated they still held a chance after that. It fell apart in the last few overs in a flash and unfortunately, Jos Buttler’s solid and composed innings will be talked about for other reasons than his batting.

Ajinkya Rahane (7/10): On the basis of the impact of this innings, Rahane would have been happy that he did the job. His 27 off 20 balls is not an exciting score, but when he realized that Jos Buttler was going strong, he instantly stopped taking risks, letting Buttler score freely. It was a viable tactic and kept the Royals in contention.

Jos Buttler (9/10): Buttler is the balm that Rajasthan Royals desperately needed over the years and sure enough, as long as he is there in the league, Royals will remain one of the favourites. He could probably have led the team down the line , but then again, small errors of life are not going to be forgiven by Ashwin. He would have rued that mistake but might channel that anger to something productive in the next matches.

Steve Smith (4.5/10): It was a hugely awaited reunion for Steve Smith and Rajasthan fans, and surely, he was on the right track to deliver to the expectations. However, a superb KL Rahul catch at deep, one of the finest in the recent times, meant the comeback wasn’t the one he would have fantasized about.

Ben Stokes (4/10): After Buttler’s unfortunate dismissal, Ben Stokes had an opportunity to win the game from thereon, because the equation was pretty simple to be fair. Stokes, however, chose the way of glory as he played a rash shot to end Royals’ fans’ hope. Not the kind of response that was needed from a senior player like Stokes.

Sanju Samson (6/10): On a batting paradise, Sanju Samson had a good start, but the same problem of being dismissed during crucial points cost the Royals big-time. Could Samson haven’t been more cautious and played out those deliveries to build on the foundation built by Rahane and Buttler.

Krishnappa Gowtham (5/10): Gowtham conceded 32 runs in four overs which was not really bad as Chris Gayle seemed to have been in real touch to destroy the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. A failure with the bat meant he wouldn’t be on my good books.

Rahul Tripathi (3/10): It would be unfair to blame Tripathi for scoring just one run, because he is primarily a top-order batsman and doesn’t have much experience of batting at No.6. Also, the pandemonium resulted in his loss of concentration.

Shreyas Gopal (6/10): No one can blame Shreyas Gopal for anything tonight. He faced one ball to score a single after bowling one over for five runs. He was certainly underused today considering how consistent he was for the Royals last year.

Jofra Archer (7.5/10): This is the kind of performance for which Jofra Archer is heavily paid for in the franchise cricket. Conceding 17 runs in four overs is as good as picking three wickets for 35 runs and Archer made sure that the duo of Sarfaraz Khan and Nicholas Pooran couldn’t open their arms in the 17th over.

Jaydev Unadkat (2/10): I understand that the expensive tag loves Jaydev Unadkat so much, but that needs to stop at the auction only. The Saurashtra skipper, who attracted almost nine crores in the last auction from the same franchise which paid 11 crores a year ago, spent 44 runs in only overs to let the game completely move away in Punjab’s favour. Can’t perform like that in order to justify his price tag.

Dhawal Kulkarni (7.5/10): Had a decent day out in the middle, by accounting for KL Rahul and then holding on to a brilliant catch in the deep to send Mayank Agarwal packing. Being selected by good friend Ajinkya Rahane ahead of Varun Aaron, Kulkarni needed to bring out something special today, and he didn’t fair that badly either.
