“You may doubt my finishing abilities, but you must not doubt my DRS accuracy”. MS Dhoni might not have said this, but he has proved it many a time. Today, despite umpire ruling a Shardul Thakur ball as wide, Dhoni asked Kohli to go for a review which ultimately proved to be the right decision.

Nothing seems to go Sri Lanka’s way in the ongoing series as despite having pushed India to precarious situations in the second and third ODI, they failed to register wins and as a result, India secured three back-to-back wins to win the series 3-0 with two games to spare. To add insult to injury, Indian batsmen tonked the Lankan bowlers into submission and posted a humongous total of 375 runs on the board. Although there was a mountain to climb, the Lankan batsmen were supposed to give a tough fight this time. But when lady luck is not with you, there is very little you can do about it.

In the third over of the Lankan chase, debutant Shardul Thakur bowled a short delivery down the leg-stump to which Niroshan Dickwella tried to help it along the way, but got a faint edge that went to the safe gloves of MS Dhoni. Umpire Raveendra Wimalasiri failed to hear the sound and ruled the delivery as a wide.

But being as sure as ever, Dhoni instantly appealed for it and advised skipper Kohli to go for the review by saying “Aawaz aya hai”, which can be translated to “There was a sound”. Considering Dhoni’s near-perfect record when it comes to DRS, Kohli didn’t waste a moment and asked for the review. Just as expected ultra edge showed a huge spike and sent the dangerous Sri Lankan opener packing for 14 and that gifted the Mumbaikar his first international wicket.

But it was not long after that Dhoni’s accuracy behind the stumps helped India earn another wicket on the last delivery of the 8th over. Jasprit Bumrah’s short ball angled down leg was caught by Dhoni again as Dilshan Munaweera tried to glance it fine. Yet again, the umpire, this time Paul Reiffel, was not convinced. But Dhoni was sure about the nick and advised Kohli to go upstairs again and got it overturned and handed India their third wicket.
