Shreyas Iyer to captain India A squad for series against Australia A, South Africa A

23-year old Shreyas Iyer is slated to lead the India A squad in the upcoming two four-day games against South Africa A as well as the quadrangular series which will involve Australia A team too. Team India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal has also been included in the squad to play the second four-day game.

The All-India Senior Selection Committee met in Kolkata on July 23 to pick the squads for the upcoming four-day games against South Africa ‘A’ & the Quadrangular series. Mumbai lad Shreyas Iyer has been named skipper of the India ‘A’ team that will go up against the Proteas in two four-day games ahead of the quadrangular series that will also see Australia ‘A’ side playing.

India U-19 youngsters such as Prithvi Shaw, Shivam Mavi, and Shubman Gill, who also put in some promising displays in this year’s IPL tournament, also found a place in the ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams respectively for the upcoming series. Meanwhile, senior team spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, who has secured a spot in the limited-overs squad, has been offered a chance by the selectors to prove his worth in the longer format of the game.

India ‘B’ team, will be led by Manish Pandey with the likes of Mayank Agarwal, Ishan Kishan, and Deepak Hooda also involved. The bowling attack will feature the likes of Siddarth Kaul, Prasidh Krishna, Kulwant Khejroliya and Navdeep Saini.
