India vs England | It's really sad the way our guys gave away their wickets, says Harbhajan Singh
Harbhajan Singh has stated that he was really disappointed with the way Indian batsmen have thrown away their wickets in the fourth Test match between India and England. He also mentioned that Moeen Ali varied the pace beautifully and used the rough patches on the pitch to take crucial wickets.
There had been speculations that Moeen Ali wasn't taken too seriously as a spinner by the England team management. That might be the reason behind Joe Root choosing Adil Rashid in the previous matches. Former England off-spinner Graeme Swann also mentioned in one of his interviews that Moeen has lost confidence and doesn't believe that he can take wickets in longer formats anymore. All these negative things come to the fore after Moeen Ali failed to live up to the expectations in the last Ashes Down Under.
Harbhajan Singh stated that he was really disappointed with the way Indian batsmen gave away their wickets and failed to stand for the team.
“It's sad the way our guys are giving away these wickets. They should have done better than this,” Bhajji said to the TOI.
Moeen Ali was picked for the fourth match as a replacement for Ollie Pope and was planned to be played more as a batsman than a bowler. But the way in which he bowled has proved that he still hasn't forgotten the art of taking wickets with the red ball.
“He varied the pace beautifully and made the batsmen play all the time. The fact that there was a bit rough patch outside the off-stump created by Ishant’s footmarks helped his case as well,” Harbhajan said.
Bhajji specifically was sad the way Hardik Pandya and R Ashwin gave away their wickets which he feels could have made the difference in the score for India.
“Those are really poor shots by Ashwin and Pandya. Not just me, they themselves would be disappointed with the shots they have played. If they had given themselves a bit more time, things would've been far easier,” Harbhajan concluded.
