ICC Women’s World T20 | Harmanpreet Kaur to lead Team India in the Caribbean
Harmanpreet Kaur has been selected to lead the Indian women’s team for the upcoming T20 World Cup to be played in the Caribbean from November 9 to November 24. The Indian side will start its campaign from the very first day of the tournament with a clash against New Zealand in a group B game.
BCCI’s All India Women’s selection committee has selected the 15-member Indian squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s World T20. Smriti Mandhana has been appointed as the vice-captain of the team and the side also includes senior batsman Mithali Raj. Most of the players in the side played in the recently-concluded bilateral series against Sri Lanka in which the Indian women won the series 4-0. The selection committee, however, has dropped experienced all-rounder Shikha Pandey from the squad as she was going through a poor patch in T20I cricket.
Mandhana and Raj will open the Indian innings with a strong middle-order to follow which includes batters like Harmanpreet, Veda Krishnamurthy, Jemimah Rodrigues to follow. After her stellar performance in Sri Lanka, Tanya Bhatia has been included in the team as the lone wicket-keeper.
The Indian spin attack looks threatening with the presence of players like Deepti Sharma, Poonam Yadav, Radha Yadav, Anuja Patil, and Ekta Bisht. Mansi Joshi attack will spearhead the pace attack with Arundhati Reddy and Pooja Vastrakar in the squad.
India is placed in Group B along with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Ireland and will play all its matches in Guyana.
