IPL 2019 | Captain is as good as his team, says Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvneshwar Kumar has expressed that a captain is good as a team, modestly giving the credit for the three successive wins to the whole team. He also suggested exercising caution with respect to the playing XI, because he expects all pitches to become slower as the IPL progresses.

Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated the Delhi Capitals by five wickets in Thursday’s encounter after the Bhuvneshwar Kumar led side had won the toss and and put DC to bat. The Hyderabad based franchise have moved to the top of the table with three consecutive wins, after a loss in the first encounter against Kolkata Knight Riders. The skipper, who has replaced Kane Williamson for now, was delighted with the team’s performance and did not fail to credit them for the victories

“When the team does well, captaincy is always easy. Captain is as good as his team,” Bhuvneshwar said, at the post-match press, reported PTI.

The Sunrisers’ bowlers, with some help from the slow and dry wicket, did an amazing job as every bowler picked wickets, and barring Siddharth Kaul, every bowler gave away runs at an economy of less than seven, taking DC’s total to 129.

The Orange Army’s opening duo were once again on fire, but missed out on a century stand as the Man of the Match Jonny Bairstow was adjudged LBW off Rahul Tewatia bowling in the seventh over. However, the England player had made the job very easy for the other batsmen, as he had score 48 off 28 balls in such a low scoring encounter. David Warner was soon dismissed in the next over, and the Tom Moody coached side’s untested middle order floundered, but Mohammad and Yusuf Pathan stayed at the crease to take them home in the 19th over.

The skipper was not surprised with the fact that the pitch stayed low throughout the match.

“With the toss, we were not sure how the wicket was going to play. We were not surprised but we knew it wouldn’t be too slow in the second innings,” the 29 year old said.

The skipper believed that most of the pitches will become slow, as they will go though considerable wear and tear as more matches are played. Seven matches are played at each ground, and the skipper implied that he will be cautious with respect to choosing his playing 11 for the upcoming matches.

“Second half of the IPL, it’s going to be slow all over India, and we have to be choosy with our eleven,” the signed off.

In their next encounter, SRH will take on Mumbai Indians at Hyderabad tomorrow.
