With plenty of crests and troughs, India defeat Pakistan by six runs in a low-scoring thriller. Rishabh Pant’s 43 helped India steer to 119 runs before Pakistan batters let down their brilliant bowling performance with Jasprit Bumrah dominating the clutch moments in a high-octane showdown.

Winning the rain-delayed toss, Babar Azam, the Pakistan captain elected to field first but the showers returned after the first over of the match with the score reading 8/0. As the play resumed after a mini break, Naseem Shah and Shaheen Afridi struck with the new ball, removing Indian experienced openers, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma with the Indian score reading 19/2. Subsequently, Axar Patel was sent up the order and the all-rounder accompanied Rishabh Pant in a 39-run stand before Naseem Shah cleaned him up in the eighth over. With the score reading 81/3 in ten overs, India’s recovery went in vain as the Pakistani pacers pegged back at their middle and lower order. The Men in Blue lost four wickets in a gap of three overs, losing Suryakumar Yadav, Shivam Dube, Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja. Eventually, the bottom five in the Indian batting order could add just 23 runs before Pakistan pacers bundle them for 119 in 19 overs.

Unlike their counterparts, the Pakistan openers got a brisk start before Jasprit Bumrah drew Babar Azam’s outside edge in play to nail the first coffin in the fifth over. Multan Sultans pair of Mohammad Rizwan and Usman Khan steered the ship through the 35-run powerplay and added to 57 runs in ten overs before Axar Patel broke the shackles by trapping Usman leg before wicket. Subsequently, Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah removed Fakhar Zaman and Rizwan to leave Pakistan reeling at 83/4 in 15 overs. Eventually, Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya conceded just seven runs in the next two overs for a wicket with Pakistan requiring 30 off the final three overs. While Siraj leaked nine runs in the 18th over, Bumrah outfoxed Iftikhar Ahmed and conceded just three runs leaving 18 to defend for Arshdeep in the last over. The left-arm pacer allowed just two runs and a wicket halfway through the over before a four off Naseem brought down the equation to 12 required off the last two balls. However, Arshdeep held the nerves and sealed the deal for India as they equal USA with four points in Group A.
