Shubman Gill to lead India as BCCI announces squad for Zimbabwe series
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a 15-man squad for India’s bilateral series against Zimbabwe starting July 6. Shubman Gill is appointed as the captain for the series with most senior players including Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, etc rested.
The BCCI have opted for a couple of wicketkeeping options in Sanju Samson and Dhruv Jurel. Nitish Kumar Reddy, Riyan Parag, Abhishek Sharma, and Tushar Deshpande earned their maiden India call-up following an impressive performance in the 2024 Indian Premier League. However, KL Rahul and Yuzvendra Chahal are some notable exclusions from the squad.
With coach Rahul Dravid's tenure concluding in the T20 World Cup, the BCCI is yet to announce his successor. Henceforth, it is likely that either Gautam Gambhir or VVS Laxman will be traveling with the team to Zimbabwe.
