There are four European domestic cricket leagues hosted by the country of Bulgaria- the Domestic T10 championship of Bulgaria, the Bulgarian domestic league, and the Ambassador Cup to name a few. One of the many teams that participate in the aforesaid leagues is the Academic Medical University Sofia Cricket Team. The Team was formed on 29 June 2021. The Academic Medical University Sofia team primarily consists of players who are generally Medical students living, working, or studying in Bulgaria.

The Academic Medical University Sofia has a rivalry against Medical University Plovdiv which was formerly known as the MU Dons. Four players of the Academic Medical University Sofia cricket Team who currently represent the Bulgarian national cricket team are Ishan de Silva, Kevin D’Souza, Delrick Vinu, and Albin Jacob.

In the 2021 and 2022 seasons of Bulgaria's domestic league, the Academic Medical University Sofia reached the semi-final, but unfortunately lost the game and eventually won the bronze medal for third place in the league.

The University is a public university which is one of the oldest Medical institutions in the whole of Bulgaria. In the 2021 season of the Fancode European Cricket Series, Bulgaria T10 league, the team of Medical University recorded 6 wins and 2 losses in their group-stage matches in the 8 group-stage matches they played.

On 05 July 2021, the Academic MU Sofia played their first-ever match as a team against the Indo-Bulgaria cricket club. In this match, the Indo-Bulgaria cricket club won the toss and elected to bat first. The team scored 113 runs for the loss of 3 wickets in their 10 overs. Prakash Mishra was the top run scorer for the Indo Bulgaria cricket club, he scored 53 runs in just 32 balls with a strike rate of 165.62. In this case, the Medical University Sofia managed to score 111 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their 10 overs. They fell short of the target by just 2 runs.

Again On the same day on 5 July 2021, they played their second group match against the same team. In this match, Academic MU Sofia won the toss and elected to bat first. They scored 76/9 in their quota of 10 overs. The chase was an easy one for the Indo Bulgaria cricket club who quickly got to the target in just 6.5 overs. Prakash Mishra was the top run scorer for the club once again, he scored 24 runs in just 11 balls with a strike rate of 218.18.

The following day, On 06 July 2021, the Academic Medical University Sofia played their third group match where they faced the Medical University Plovdiv. In this match, the Medical University Sofia won the toss and elected to field first. Put to bat first, the Medical University Plovdiv scored 66/6 in their 10 overs. In the chase, Sofia cricket Team easily chased down the target in 8.5 overs. Kevin D'souza was the top run scorer for MU Sofia, he scored 26 runs in just 9 balls with a strike rate of 288.88 and helped them to win the match by 4 wickets. This was the first-ever match win for the Academic Medical University Sofia. The win gave them a boost in their performance and confidence to go into the next match as the crowd's favourites.

Then, on 06 July 2021, the Academic Medical University Sofia Team played their fourth group match against Medical University Plovdiv. On 7 July 2021, the Academic Medical University Sofia played their fifth group match against barbarians. In this match, the barbarians won the toss and elected to bat first. Barbarians just scored 25 runs in their 8.1 overs. The Academic Medical University Sofia showed a great display of bowling. However, despite their clinical bowling effort, Sofia cricket Team chased down 27 runs in just 2.2 overs.

Again On 7 July 2021, the Academic Medical University Sofia played their sixth group match against the Barbarians. Academic Medical University won the toss and elected to field first as they won the toss in the match. Barbarians scored 59/8 in their 10 overs. While chasing, the Sofia cricket Team chased down the target in just 8.2 overs. Ishan De Silva was the top run scorer for the Sofia Cricket Team, he scored 21 runs in 18 balls with a strike rate of 116.66. Ultimately, the Academic Medical University won the match by 7 wickets.

On 8 July 2021, they played their seventh group match against MU Pleven. The opponent team won the toss and elected to field first in this match. Sofia's cricket Team put up a huge score of 113/4 on the scoreboard in their 10 overs. Coming out to chase, the MU Pleven only managed to reach a total of 81/3 in their 10 overs and hence Medical University Sofia won the match by 32 runs.

Again On 8 July 2021, M.U. Sofia played their eighth group match against MU Pleven. In this match, the MU Pleven team won the toss and elected to bat first where they scored 91/4 in their 10 overs. In the chase, Sofia cricket Team easily chased down the target in 8.3 overs. Firas Hussain was the top run scorer for the team as he scored 43 runs in 28 runs with a strike rate of 153.57. The Sofia Cricket Team won the match by 8 wickets. With this, the group matches come to an end, and the Academic Medical University Sofia advance to the qualifiers.

In the final match of Fancode ECS Bulgaria 2021, the team of Academic Medical University Sofia faced the Indo Bulgaria cricket club. In this match, the opponent club won the toss and elected to bat first. Indo-Bulgarian scored a huge total of 113/9 in their 10 overs. In the chase, Sofia's cricket Team only scored 86/6 and hence their opponents won the match and the tournament by 27 runs.

Performance of Fancode ECS Bulgaria 2022:

In the 2022 season of Fancode ECS Bulgaria T10 league, the Academic Medical University Sofia played 7 group stage matches, 1 qualifier match, and the final match. They recorded 3 wins, 1 loss, and 3 matches with no results in their group-stage matches.

On 18 April 2022, they played their first group match against the Black Smiths. This match was interrupted by the rain, so the match was scheduled as 5 overs. In this match, the Black Smiths won the toss and elected to field first. Sofia's cricket Team scored 59/2 in their 5 overs and while chasing, the opponents only scored 30/1 in 5 overs which helped them to win the match by 29 runs.

Again On 18 April 2022, Medical University Sofia played their second group match against the Black Smiths. The home team won the toss and elected to bat first in this match. They scored a huge total of 107/7 In 10 overs. Kevin D'souza was the top run scorer for the Team as he scored 55 runs in 30 balls with a strike rate of 183.33. In the chase, Black Smith only scored 73/6 and hence their opposition team won the match by 34 runs. Their next matches against the BSCU-MU Plovdiv, Indo-Bulgarian team, and VTU-MU Pleven which were all set to be played on 21 April were cancelled due to rain and thus yielded no results.

On 22 April 2022, the Academic Medical University Sofia played a group match against Indo-Bulgarians. In this match, Sofia Cricket Team won the toss and elected to bat first and scored 58/8 in their 10 overs. In the chase, the Indo-Bulgaria cricket club chased down the target in just 8.1 overs and hence won the match by 6 wickets.

On 22 April 2022 again, the Academic Medical University Sofia played their next group match against MU Pleven. In this match, MU Pleven won the toss and scored 64/6 in 10 overs while batting first. In the chase, Sofia cricket Team easily chased down the target in just 5 overs where Kevin D'souza was the top run scorer for the team. His 45 runs in just 17 balls with a strike rate of 264.70 proved vital for the team.

Then they advanced to the qualifiers for the second time in two seasons they played. In the first qualifiers, they faced the Indo-Bulgarian team. The Academic MU Sofia defeated the opponents by reaching the target of 84 runs in just 8.3 overs. Their dominating performance throughout the season and the win in the qualifier match earned them a place in the finals. From here they were just one step away from the championship title.

On 23 April 2022 in the final match of Fancode ECS Bulgaria 2023, the Academic Medical University Sofia faced the Indo-Bulgarian Cricket team. In this match, the Indo Bulgarian Cricket team won the toss and got their opponents to bat first where they scored 79/5 in 10 overs. During the chase, Indo Bulgarian Cricket Club achieved the target in 6.2 overs and hence MU Sofia team faltered in the final step again and became the runners-up of the 2022 season.

Performance of Fancode ECS Bulgaria 2023:

In the 2023 season of the Fancode ECS Bulgaria league, the M.U. Sofia played 15 matches of which 6 ended up with no result. Out of the other 9 matches, the team 6 and lost 2 which summed up their season.

On 22 May 2023, M.U. Sofia played their first group match against BSCU MU Plovdiv. In this match, Sofia Cricket Team won the toss and elected to bat first where they ended up with a huge total of 138/2 in their 10 overs. In this match, Manan Bashir was the top run scorer for the Team as he scored an excellent century. He scored 114 runs in 39 balls with a strike rate of 292.30. While chasing, the opponent team suffered a collapse and hence it was an easy victory for the home team.

Again On 22 May 2023, the Academic Medical University Sofia played their next group match against MU Trakia. In this match, the MU Sofia won the toss and elected to field first and while batting first, the opponent scored 87/3 in their 10 overs. While coming to chase, Sofia cricket Team quickly reached the target In just 7.4 overs and hence got the desired points.

The team played their next match against BSCU MU Plovdiv. While batting first, Academic MU Sofia scored 131/5 in 60 balls. In reply, MU Plovdiv scored only 81/6 in their 10 overs and hence a victory by 50 runs gave the team a boost.

In their next match, they were all set to face the CC Yullis-MU Trakia. This match was no different from the previous encounters as they won it by 64 runs. Consecutive big wins gave them the confidence to perform under pressure and exert dominance in the entire tournament.

Their next opponent was the Barbarians CC, where they continued their winning streak and defeated them in the golden ball after tying the score at the end of 10.0 overs. This was a nail-biting encounter between the two biggest contenders for the championship title in the 2023 season of the Fancode ECS Bulgaria.

After this, almost all of their following matches were against the Indo-Bulgarian team, two against the BS CC-Sofia Spartans, Barbarians, and Istanbul KSK, and the final match was abandoned due to bad weather. Thus they were again left stranded from the championship trophy.
