PKL 2019 | Combined 7 of the league so far ft. Pawan Sehrawat, Manjeet Chhillar and Maninder Singh
PKL has always been a tournament which is never short on tough battles on the mat. The seventh season has started and there are many players who have starred for their respective sides so far and we at SportsCafe bring you the combined team of the season so far.
Naveen Kumar,Raider, Dabang Delhi
Being the best raider of the team in the previous season, Naveen Kumar was retained by coach Krishan Kumar Hooda and has performed as the primary raider of the side in the first three games as well. He has looked swift with his footwork during the raids and going in do or die situations, he has looked calm and composed. In spite of being a young raider, he looked well aware of the situations during a match. Picking up 31 points in the league so far proves that the youngster can walk into any of the teams in the league as a primary raider.
Maninder Singh, Raider, Bengal Warriors (C)
After his raiding show in the sixth edition, Maninder Singh was handed over the captaincy duties for the ongoing season. He is the primary raider and has led the team from the front with some dominating show for the team. In the first three games, Maninder has scored 29 raid points and looked his best with the support of players like K Prapanjan and Mohammad Nabibakhsh. In the previous game against Puneri Paltan, he went up against his last year’s skipper Surjeet Singh and still managed to score 14 points from 16 raids. He is clearly the best choice for leading the team of the week as well.
Pawan Sehrawat, Raider, Bengaluru Bulls
With 28 total raid points from three games, Pawan Sehrawat is at the third place on the points table and he will be the other raider in the team of the week. After missing out on getting to Super 10 in the first two games against Patna Pirates and Gujarat Fortunegiants, he finally managed to get to the magical number in the third against U Mumba where he collected 11 points and helped the defending champions come from behind and win the match.
Baldev Singh, Right Corner, Bengal Warriors
Maninder Singh is not the only reason for Bengal’s good form so far this year. A lot of credit must go to the right corner defender Baldev Singh as well. From three matches so far, Baldev has 16 points with two High 5s as well. Being the most important member in the Bengal defense after Jeeva Kumar, Baldev has a good understanding of his responsibilities and would want to continue his exceptional form in all the coming games for the Warriors as well. His consistency and effectiveness will put him ahead of Amit Hooda from Jaipur Pink Panthers.
Jaideep, Left Corner, Patna Pirates
If Baldev is the most preferred defender at the right corner, then the left corner clearly belongs to Jaideep. After a decent season with the three-time champions last year, he is back with them for 2019 and has been impressive so far as well. His six successful tackles against Telugu Titans when Pardeep Narwal was failing in the raids helped them register a win against the home side in the first leg while he improved further in the next match against Tamil Thalaivas and bagged seven points from seven tackles to win the cliff-hanger. From the three matches played in the season, he has collected 14 points and gets preference over Sandeep Dhull because of his calm-headedness and consistency.
Manjeet Chhillar, Left cover, Tamil Thalaivas
One of the finest all-rounders in the league Manjeet Chhillar is playing only as a specialist left side defenders from the last two seasons. Being in the same Tamil Thalaivas team for the second season in a row, Manjeet has performed well at the left cover position in the three games so far. He has looked strong enough with the dash and also with the thigh hold attempts. 15 points from three games show how he has done so far sans the mistake of stepping off the mat in the game against Dabang Delhi which turned the game in the opposition’s favour.
Surinder Singh, Right Cover, U Mumba
Although Sunil Kumar from Gujarat Foertunegiants has looked good at the right cover position as compared to others, Surinder Singh’s consistency and certainty of going for tackles is a reason why he will get a nod ahead of the Gujarat skipper. Surinder has 11 tackle points to his name from the four games so far and in the U Mumba side, which has some of the top defenders in the side, he has been a decent performance so far.
