Shikhar Dhawan's catch to dismiss Jason Roy, in the ongoing IPL match between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Lions, has divided opinions after replays proved to be inconclusive. The third umpire had a look at multiple replays and eventually decided to side with the bowling team.

The incident occurred in the sixth over, with Gujarat having lost Brendon McCullum in the previous over were handed another blow when Jason Roy pulled a Nehra delivery but it went into the hands of Dhawan at short midwicket. The Indian opener appeared confident in the appeal having completed the low catch but the umpires and Roy remained unconvinced about the cleanliness of the take and referred the decision to the third umpire.

The controversy arose because even though it appeared that Dhawan had his fingers under the ball, the way in which the ball bounced in his hand created the doubt in the third umpire's mind. The official took his time and viewed the catch multiple times from every possible angle, before eventually sending Roy to the dressing room.

Though Roy’s fate was sealed by the umpire’s decision, it still appears to be a decsion that could have gone with him as well.
