WATCH | Tim Paine drops a sitter; gets trolled on Twitter
Tim Paine's selection in the Australian squad, ahead of Mathew Wade and Peter Nevill, created a huge debate all around the world and, today, Paine has added fuel to the fire. On Day 1 of the first Ashes Test, he missed an easy sitter behind the stumps when James Vince (83) was at 68.
Paine, who played his last Test in 2010, made headlines when Cricket Australia announced the squad for the Ashes against England and included him after the gap of almost seven years. The "wicket-keeper" had not kept stumps in domestic cricket for almost two years and the Twitterati were waiting for his very first mistake. They didn't have to wait for too long as Paine dropped a regulation catch on the very first day of the five-match series.
England won the toss and elected to bat first in Brisbane. After the early loss of Alastair Cook, Mark Stoneman and Vince built a partnership of 125 runs before the opener was bowled by Pat Cummins in the 55th over of the match.
Earlier, in the 52nd over of the game, Australia missed a chance to break this partnership when Nathan Lyon's brilliant delivery forced Vince to attempt a drive. But all the Englishman could manage was an edge as the ball seemed destined for the keeper's gloves. However, Paine misjudged the bounce of the ball and instead of taking a regulation catch, the ball bounced off his wrists and Vince lived to see another day. The batsman, who was playing at 68 at the time, ended up scoring 83 before Lyon got his revenge with a dead accurate throw.

The Twitterati didn’t waste too much time in pointing out Cricket Australia's "mistake" again and started trolling the 32-year-old on social media.
