Adam Gilchrist has called Virat Kohli as the number one batsman in the world right now and claims that the Indian team will look to their leader to score the bulk of the runs Down under. The legendary wicket-keeper has also added that the Australian bowling unit may pose a threat to the visitors.

Team India will look to end their 2018 on a high as they gear up to face off against long-time foes Australia in the upcoming four-match Test series on foreign soil. The absence of star Australian pair Steven Smith and David Warner will give the visitors a unique opportunity to pull off a rare series win away from home.

Gilchrist has backed the visitors to put up a strong display as the two teams prepare for the series opener at Adelaide on December 6 and also heaped praise on India while he singled out Virat Kohli as the dangerman for the visitors. The former Deccan Chargers skipper backed the Aussie trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood to threaten the Indian batting line-up.

"Virat is clearly the best player in the world at the moment. So India will look to him to score heavily but all are going to have their challenges and as too will the Australian batting line-up.

"I think Pat Cummins is outstanding, Hazlewood is almost McGrath like with his bowling. Those three guys and there are a couple in the wings who are high quality fast bowlers," he added.

Waugh also agreed with Gilchrist and said that it will be a really close series thanks to India's quality.

"I will see this as a significant chance and they would have prepared for this tour for a long time, I think it's going to be a really close series," Waugh told PTI reporters.
