It was one-way traffic at Thiruvananthapuram as West Indies beat India by eight wickets, chasing down a target of 171 with more than an over to spare, thanks to an unbeaten half-century from Lendl Simmons and some lusty hitting by Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran. Skipper Kieron Pollard was extremely happy with the kind of attitude his men showed on the field to bounce back and restrict the Indians to a below-par score and then chase it down to level the series.

"Guys came back very well in the field, being able to restrict to 170, after the start they got. The way we batted - the guys executed perfectly. It was fantastic," Pollard said in the post-match presentation ceremony, reported Cricbuzz.

"Very excited for some of the guys who've come out of the CPL doing well," he further added.

It must not be forgotten that although the West Indies are at number 10 position in the ICC T20 rankings, they are still the defending champions of the T20 World Cup, and Pollard is hopeful that some of the senior players from that World Cup-winning squad like Dwayne Bravo, Chris Gayle, Andre Russell, etc. will come back in the T20 team before the T20 World Cup next year Down Under and provide the youngsters in the team with the much-needed experience.

"Some of those senior guys will be back, but excited for these guys, we have to deal with what we have in front of us," Pollard stated.

Pollard has played ten seasons of the IPL for Mumbai Indians and has gained a huge amount of experience of playing in these conditions. When he was appointed recently as West Indies' white-ball skipper, his experience was one of the main factors that impressed the board. Pollard is hopeful that his experience will come in handy for the team.

"I have played a lot of cricket in India. Can pass on the knowledge to these guys. Pride myself as being a leader, I have been in trouble a lot of time. Every time I come on the cricket field, I try to win," he concluded.
