MSK Prasad has stated that MS Dhoni has got the right to retire in his own terms and as far as his selection goes, the committee has already decided to groom the youngsters. The chairman of the selection committee has also backed Rishabh Pant to come good in future matches and praised his batting.

MS Dhoni made himself unavailable for the Windies tour and even understood the fact that he is no more an automatic selection in the Indian team. However, as per ToI reports, Dhoni has also made it clear in front of the panel that he is not retiring from the sport now, which means the selectors are allowed to pick him for the future tours. When Prasad was asked the same question, he didn’t dodge it, rather made it clear that Dhoni has the rights to retire on his own terms.

“Retirement is purely individual (decision). A legendary cricketer like Dhoni, he knows when to retire. What is the future course of action, that is in the hands of the selection committee? I don’t think we need to discuss anything more on it. First of all he is not available. Second, we have already started grooming youngsters.”

“He’s unavailable for this series but we had certain roadmaps and plans till World Cup. Subsequently, we’ve laid down a few more plans and thought of giving as many opportunities to Pant and to see he is groomed. This is our plan right now,” Prasad added.

Rishabh Pant was drafted into the Indian side in the midway of the World Cup and although he got a couple of good starts, he failed to make them count. However, the former Indian wicket-keeper threw his weight behind the 21-year-old.

“He played well. Especially in those conditions, he batted really well,” he said.
