India Under-19 record convincing victory over England Under-19 in first match of tri-series

India started the under-19 tri-series in England in some style as they managed to ease their way to victory over the hosts with five wickets and more than 10 overs to spare. As many as nine Indian players were making their Youth ODI debut, compared to England’s four.

England won the toss and chose to bat first at the County Ground in Worcester. However, they got off to a bad start losing opener Dan Mousley to SS Mishra in the second over itself. There onwards, wickets kept tumbling at regular intervals and even though a lot of partnerships got off to a decent start, the batsmen failed to capitalize on them to propel the team to a big score.

Three of the top five batsmen got out in their 20s, while LP Goldsworthy scored a well paced half century. There onwards, the bowlers assumed control of affairs and completely outplayed the batsmen, not for once letting thee opposition settle into the game. The hosts were eventually bowled out for 204 with three and a half overs to spare. Kartik Tyagi and Ravi Bishnoi were the pick of the bowlers, picking up three wickets each, while SS Mishra and V Pati divided the rest of the wickets equally among themselves.

On what looked like a good pitch for batting, the subcontinent team never really looked in trouble even though opener Qamran Iqbal fell early, a 92-run stand for the second wicket meant India retained control of the match. Divyaansh Saxena scored a composed 43 before skipper Priyam Garg came in and scored a quick fire 38 off 33 balls. All the while, Yashasvi Jaiswal stood at the other end and even though he was eventually run out for 78, the work was more than done by then. Eight England bowlers bowled in hope of turning the tide in their favour but eventually Shubhang Hedge hit the winning runs with 64 balls to spare.

England will look to return to winning ways in the next match of the series against Bangladesh U-19 at the same venue on Monday.
