ICC 2019 World Cup | No booing when we play Australia at Taunton, says Sarfaraz Ahmed
Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed has asserted that the Pakistani supporters won't resort to booing Steve Smith and David Warner when the duo take the field against Pakistan on Wednesday. Ahmed also mentioned that the top three batsmen would be playing crucial roles for both the teams.
One of the major highlights in India’s 36-run win over Australia was Virat Kohli pacifying the Indian supporters who were booing Smith from the stands. The skipper later revealed that he had even apologized to the Australian player on behalf of the fans.
Pakistan skipper Ahmed has taken the same route and ensured before the match that their supporters won’t be resorting to such tactics. “Our supporters love cricket and cricketers and there won’t be any such thing when we play Australia on Wednesday at Taunton,” said Sarfaraz ahead of the game reported Geo.tv.
The skipper further discussed the importance of the game and the comeback mentality of the Australian players. He also went on to state the importance of Pakistan’s top three batsman scoring and restricting Australia’s top three.
“It is important that top three batsmen score runs and provide the team a solid base. Similarly, it is also important to get opponents top order out quickly to restrict them,” he said.
Pakistan answered their critics the perfect way when they posted a mammoth total of 349 against the hosts and eventually won it by 14 runs. However, when asked about a similar plan against the Aussies, the skipper stated that high scoring games in the World Cup wouldn’t be easy for the tremendous pressure on players.
“You post 500 type scores once in a blue moon. World Cup is a pressure game and it is not easy to post big totals here when there’s so much pressure around,” he said.
