No one can read the game like MS Dhoni, not even Virat Kohli, says Keshav Banerjee

MS Dhoni's childhood coach, Keshav Banerjee, revealed that there is no one better in the world at reading a game of cricket than World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni. Banerjee added that Dhoni no longer plays the role of a finisher for India as he should bat at number four during the World Cup.

The Indian cricket team will begin their preparations for the upcoming 2019 ICC ODI World Cup after the culmination of the ongoing Indian Premier League which has two matches left on the roster. Along with hosts’ England, defending champions Australia and India are also the favorites to lift the trophy.

However, Kohli’s former coach from when he was younger - Keshav Banerjee - revealed that it will be World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni who will play a bigger role if India were to win the coveted trophy as compared to the current Indian captain.

“In game reading and tactical approach, there is no one like Dhoni and Kohli also does not have that. So, Kohli can always fall back on Dhoni if he wants to take any advice. If Dhoni would not have been part of the Indian team, there would be nobody to help Kohli as he needs time as captain,” Banerjee told Cricket Country in a recent interview.

Banerjee also spoke about the much-debated number four spot in the Indian batting line-up. The coach opined that Dhoni should be the player to come in at number four which will allow the CSK captain some more time to settle in the middle and play the big shots later on in the innings.

“When he bats at No. 4, he takes time as he has time. When he bats at No. 5 or 6, he has to hit from the word go as runs are needed after all. Then he has to take risks. I feel Dhoni should bat at no. 4 in the World Cup. It will be the team management’s decision, but that’s my personal opinion. If he bats at No. 4, the other batsmen can play freely after him,” Banerjee explained.
