India’s most successful Test bowler Anil Kumble has heaps of praises for Ravichandran Ashwin as he impressed in India’s win in the second Test against South Africa in Pune. The witty off-spinner grabbed a six-wicket wicket haul in the match on a wicket that was more conducive to pace and bounce.

You know you are doing something right when the most successful Test bowler in the history of Indian Cricket has heaps of praises for you. Ravichandran Ashwin was termed as a class act by Anil Kumble as he showed that he is not a one trade pony, one who just takes wickets on spinning tracks. He showed that he had many tricks up his sleeve to strike in conditions that were more suited to the pace bowlers. This proved that he was capable to adapt to situations and conditions that did not offer much assistance to the spin bowlers.

“He’s the fastest to 350 Test wickets, it’s something amazing,” Anil Kumble told Cricket Next.

Kumble, who will team up with Ashwin in Kings XI Punjab franchise next year in his capacity as the team mentor and coach, also believes that Ashwin can contribute not only with the ball but also with the bat, providing India with vital runs down the order. He stressed on the importance and added value that Ashwin brings to the team, calling him a valuable asset.

“You know, I think Ashwin, not just as a bowler but as an all-rounder, is an asset to the team. He’s a class act,” he added.

Ashwin had a point to prove, not to others but to himself when he was left out of the side for the Windies tour after failing to impress in South Africa, England or Australia. But his performance on a track that wasn’t a landmine where the ball gripped and turned is something very commendable.
