Joao Cancelo has set Kyle Walker’s first team spot as his top target for this season, with the Portuguese full-back explaining that he believes the move to Manchester City will help him. The former Juventus star became the club’s fourth move this summer in a swap deal plus cash for Danilo.

While Rodri entered as Manchester City’s club-record signing, outdoing previous holder Riyad Mahrez, Joao Cancelo walked in as the Premier League’s most expensive full-back. The record was once held by fellow Cityzen Kyle Walker, but with his swap deal plus cash for Danilo, Cancelo shatters the previous record.

The former Juventus man signs a six-year contract with the English Champions, tying him to the club till 2025. “We have been impressed with his progress and have no doubt he can continue to shine here in Manchester,” said Txiki Begiristain. “He fits the profile of player we want here at Manchester City.”

Cancelo himself had a lot to say about the move, and has immediately set his sights on replacing Kyle Walker before the season is over. “I’m aware how Kyle is one of the best full-backs,” said the 25-year-old. “But I always love challenges, bring myself to the limit. I’m going to compete with him and I’ll try to get my place.

It will be up to the manager to choose one or the other, but I promise I will try to work hard and compete as best as I can. I have a dream to be the best right-back. And the only way to do that is by challenging yourself. Only playing with the best can you do that.”
